Have you read the plan book? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the wealth of information in it? Not sure how/where to start? Feel like you should completely revamp your pantry supplies?
I remember feeling that same way when I was trying to get started on the Trim Healthy Plan. Don't get discouraged, remember this is a lifestyle change! Just like any other lifestyle change it takes time and practice. My THM journey started in 2016. Although I've not been perfect the whole time I have been able to make life long changes over the years. With that being said always remember slow and steady wins the race.
My first step when getting started on trim healthy mama?
I choose to start with my drinks. The key to success is making one change at a time. Which will create new habits for you. Some of my favorite "pop" replacements are Zevia and Cider Pop. I have a cider pop every single day now! Make one with me!
Are you a coffee drinker? Or should I say a cream with a splash of coffee drinker? I was too! My coffee was one of the hardest things for me to change. But once I found my sweet spot I've never went back and I never here! Here's how I make mine today!
What's next?
Breakfast, the first meal of the day seems to be the easiest for me. Such as eggs fried in butter with a side of avocado! Tada! There is your first S Meal Breakfast! With your first breakfast under your belt, now go for a week straight just focusing on changing your breakfast to a compatible meal. Remember S meals focus on including fat and excluding carbs! Here's a great recipe to get you started, which will give you breakfast for the whole week. By just focusing on your breakfast only that first week will give you time to use up everything in your pantry so your not just letting food you've already bought go to waste.
Don't forget about those healthy carbs. Our bodies need them for many reasons. Oatmeal is one of my favorite energizing breakfasts. Prep some oatmeal cups to have on hand for the week like this: Watch here.
You're on a roll
Now is the time to start stocking up on new items that are compliant with the plan. When stocking your pantry always check to make sure there are no sugars listed in the nutrition label like we talked about previously. Including the ones that end with ose, such as sucralose. Head to the grocery store. Let's look at some things you will want to include in your list.
Meats (fatty and lean).
Veggies, lots of them (fresh and frozen).
Berries ( fresh and frozen).
Simple carbs (Brown rice, beans, old fashioned rolled oats, sprouted bread, and fruits.
Eggs, almond milk, cheese, butter and heavy cream (for your delicious cream filled coffee in the mornings).
Sweeteners, when first starting out I used truvia in the packets. Now I use the trim healthy mama sweeteners, they are more cost-effective for me.
Condiments: Duke's mayo, sugar-free ketchup, mustard, pickles, and sauerkraut.
Here comes the fun part
Now what to make with all these groceries you just bought? We are keeping these meals simple for the time being. Here's some ideas for you!
E Meal: Chicken, broccoli and brown rice stir fry. Throw in a bag of frozen riced cauliflower to give you more "rice" and another veggie.
S Meal: Spaghetti with zucchini as the noodles, using ground beef and sugar free pasta sauce.
E Meal: Oatmeal with almond milk and sweetener to taste.
E Meal: Chicken taco salad with peppers, onions and beans. Using salsa as the dressing.
S Meal: Any meat cooked the way you like with frozen veggies roasted in the oven with butter salt and pepper.
Going from getting started on Trim Healthy Mama to staying on track
Now that you have seen how I started implementing trim healthy mama into my lifestyle, you can figure out what will be the best for your lifestyle. For me this has taken me many years to fully commit because lets face it, I am not a person who likes change very much. Which looking back now I wish I would have fully committed in 2016 and never looked back. I feel so much better in my own skin. This lifestyle gives me so much more confidence, not only in my appearance, but also in my choices! Knowing I am choosing to feed myself and my family the best food for our bodies.
